    Summers fallen.....

    grass shimmers
    in morning mist
    dew escapes
    as autumn has kissed
    just lightly enough
    to make us aware
    summers end
    is drawing near
    trees droop
    laden with fruit
    leaves adorn crispness
    tinged with sadness
    birds gather and circulate
    before making their escape
    hotter climes beckon
    before winter awakens
    memories of summer
    in minds linger
    a smile recalls
    the last sun
    before it falls
    as evenings draw in
    like a blanket of softness
in the space of no time
    we’re shrouded in darkness
    trees stripped bare
    yawning
    and
    inhaling
    the crisp morning air
    another summer has fallen
    to the smell of autumn

I wrote this on 17 August 2010, after looking out of my office window in Burgess Hill and saw the leaves on the chestnut tree fading to brown…... just a little sign that the cycle of life progresses even when we think summers still in full flight …...

In the end only time will tell...

    As the sands of time
    seep through the hole
    will I feel full
    or
    will I feel empty
    hopefully
    by chance
    will the sands stop
    just in time
    for me to breathe
    reflect and see
    which end of time
    my position can be

Life is about choices I think if we take time to stop and reflect we can decide which path we choose.... hence I use the word can in the last line not will....

thanks for reading any comments most welcomed

    The Peacemaker

    I am not a petal
    Nor a leaf
    But a root
    That hides beneath
    I’m the bit
    You don’t see
    That somehow
    Seems to
    Keep the piece
    Above the ground
    From tumbling over
    When all around
    Is wet and windy

    The risk of leaping ......

    You sent me
    letters in the sky
    I felt your words
    so hard
    my heart cried
    dreams became empty
    as clouds dispersed
    I couldn’t understand
    how a parachute
    could burst
    you tugged
    at my strings
    you made me
    leap
    I flew like a bird
    followed
    like a sheep
    I thought
    you loved me
    yours to keep
    until I leapt
    and the parachute
    burst.......

I wrote this just before bedtime, a freewrite on 20 August 2010, as often with a freewrite a couple of lines come to me and thereafter my mind wanders off and a write appears....

This was a reflective piece of writing ...... I find writing poetry is a good way of dealing with emotions past and present...

    comments always welcome
